About Us
Split Decision was started in late 2008 with singer Jim
Benskin and guitarist Bill Clinton (yes Bill Clinton)
meeting each other though a mutual friend. After
realizing they had similar goals and musical interests,
the search began to find the missing pieces of the
puzzle.
Not long after, drummer Gary Cross came into the
picture and it was clear he was going to be part of the
band. A failed attempt with one bassist had Gary on the
phone to bassist and friend JB Rhodes. JB was a
perfect fit and things were beginning to come together.
JB introduced the rest of the band to rhythm guitarist
and back up vocalist Chris Swain. Chris was not
familiar with classic rock but adapted quickly and
showed he had the stuff to be a great addition.
Unfortunately personal commitments forced Bill to
regretfully step away from being a full time member of
the band. Although Bill is still a friend of the band and
sits in with us on occasion we needed to find someone
to replace him on a permanent basis. Talented guitarist
Mike Hoer was called in and the lineup was complete.
In April of 2009, Gary decided to move in a different
direction musically and left the band. This left us in
need of someone extremely talented to keep from
cancelling gigs. Chris and JB recommended John
Bales who they had jammed with from time to time and
was between bands. John learned our set list in less
than a week keeping us from having any down time.
